Receipt Art

In 2013 I picked up a receipt that had been left behind on a Tesco self-service checkout. It has 3 items. Hair gel, hair gel, The Telegraph. For some reason it made me laugh. And it sparked an idea in my head that you could create art using supermarket till receipts.

This idea percolated inside my head until 2024 when I had some free time and discovered I could make a Christmas Tree from Christmassy items bought at a supermarket.

I posted this to Reddit and it got lots of upvotes. I assumed I had peaked at my first receipt. I was wrong…

The next receipt was a simple concept. Buy 26 items going from A to Z. Here it is…

And it all went a little bonkers. News websites. The Metro. Radio interviews.

And then a few months later Tesco released a campaign featuring acrostic poems on receipts.

Turns out they’re like buses.
